Dog mauls cat in horror attack

5:39pm Wed 23rd Apr 08:: written by Gareth McPherson

Police are hunting two teenage boys who watched while their dog mauled a cat to death.

The pair were seen laughing as they left the bloody scene in The Greenway, Cippenham at about 4.45pm on Monday.
The cat, called Laurel, was wallowing in the sun near his home when the heartless pair unleashed their dog, thought to be an American Pit Bull Terrier.

The cat's owner, housewife Sharon Ballantyne described the pet as 'part of the family' and cannot bear to explain to her children aged five and seven, what has happened.

She said: "
My neighbour shouted at the owners to control their dog but they just didn't do anything," she said. "They just laughed. It's sick. It's really quite sick."

She added: "He was a very special cat and he never did anything to harm anyone. It's just terrible," she said.

Police are hunting the dog owners who are described as Asian and in their mid-teens. One was wearing a dark fleece top and dark jogging bottoms and the other was wearing a light coloured top and dark tracksuit bottoms.
The dog is medium-sized with brown and black colouring.

Anyone with information can call Thames Valley Police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
