It was a black day for the area’s rugby teams as both Maidenhead and Marlow rugby clubs were relegated after suffering defeats on the last day of the season.

However, Maidenhead United's footballers offered something to cheer about as their third successive league victory meant they will be playing Conference South football again next season.

FOOTBALL:

Havant and Waterlooville  0(0)  – 3 (2) Maidenhead United
                                                                                     Newman 9

Lee Newman gave Maidenhead an early lead before goals from Carl Wilson-Denis and Many Williams completed the comfortable victory.

Premier League

Arsenal 2 (2) – Reading 0 (0)

Reading were outclassed by a free-flowing Arsenal side looking to claim some pride from their disintegrating season.

Goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Gilberto meant that Steve Coppell's men find themselves firmly in the relegation battle with only three games remaining.

RUGBY:

South West 1

Coney Hill 20 (14) – Maidenhead (5) 15

Maidenhead had only themselves to blame as they crashed to defeat away at Coney Hill who remain in the South West 1 league.

As relegation rivals Reading lost 25-22 to Bracknell, a Maidenhead win would made them safe and they visitors had a number of chances but Coney held on.

South West 2 East

Marlow 17 Henley 22

A last minute converted try relegated Marlow after they had dominated proceedings against fellow strugglers Henley.
