New folk are on the scene

2:15pm Thu 10th Apr 08

The folk revival continues apace as Bracknell’s South Hill Park has started a new live event to showcase acts.

Folking Live is taking place every fourth Thursday of the month in the venue’s Cellar Bar, but the first night is being held on Thursday, April 17.

Each night will offer the best in English folk, country, bluegrass, Americana and world music from performers both local and further afield.

The event will consist of a number of 20-minute slots followed by a featured artist who will play out the evening with an extended set. Next Thursday’s offering includes the quite wonderfully named Anna and The Odd Socks, a traditional folk act headed by Anna Tabbush, cited as one of the UK’s brightest prospects on the scene.

Mark Buck is a London-based bluesman and a fixture at The Jazz Cafe where he has supported the likes of Ry Cooder and Bo Diddley.

Naama Hillman boasts an earthy vibe and a voice that ‘could melt chocolate’. She will perform songs from debut album Living Room and material from her upcoming follow-up.

Completing the line-up is Anthea Neads, a local singer-songwriter and part of duo Inimitable Dragonfly.

Organisers are keen to hear from musicians interested in performing at future Folking Live nights.
