The search begins for this year's queen

The search is on for the queen of the 2008 Maidenhead Carnival.
Could it be you or someone you know who can add a regal touch to this year’s celebrations over the weekend of June 7-8.
The lucky winner of the 2008 royal title will have a packed programme of engagements throughout the carnival, including being a VIP at the evening concert and fireworks on Saturday, June 7, and riding at the front of the huge carnival parade through the town in a sports car the next day.
The queen will receive some proper pampering from a top Maidenhead salon to ensure she looks and feels her best before the carnival.
And as the event is also about raising money for good causes she will receive £200 to donate to the charity of her choice.
Roger Wilkinson, carnival chairman, encouraged the women of Maidenhead to take part.
He said: “It’s all about giving someone the chance to be a star for the weekend and beyond – for who knows what doors will open for someone who was Maidenhead’s carnival queen? Everyone should have the opportunity to be a star and this could be yours.”
As in previous years Advertiser readers will help to choose the queen.
If you want to enter fill in a form in this week's Advertiser, or click on our special carnival page online, which is coming soon.
Here’s how the search will work: If you are aged 16 or over, send in a recent photo of yourself together with the completed form telling us why you think should be picked as the carnival queen and which charity you would like to support.
The closing date for entries is Monday, April 28, after which the Advertiser will print all of the entries and ask readers to vote for their favourite.
The top three will go on to a shortlist from which the queen will be chosen by a panel of carnival sponsors.
