Fashioning a new career

10:07am Thu 10th Apr 08:: written by Fran Pemberton

An up-and-coming fashion designer who starred in the recent prime-time television show Project Catwalk is well on her way to becoming Maidenhead’s answer to Miu Miu.

Jules Murray, from Grenfell Road, appeared in the third series of the show which finished airing on Sky One last month, and has been so inspired by the programme that she is now designing her own fashion collection.

Jules, who lives with her fiancé Colin, was eliminated in the second round of the show, which saw 13 budding designers battle it out week by week in front of a panel of celebrity judges to win a lucrative star prize.

But the 27-year-old, who studied at the now closed Berkshire College of Art, is not deterred and says that not winning has made her even more determined to make it in the fashion industry.

“Project Catwalk was a fantastic experience,” she said. “I’m not prepared to give up. It has actually put more of a fire in my belly now; I have thrown myself into my own collection, which is called FutureSorcerer.

“Based on powerful female icons, it’s about the power of women in the future and their hidden mysteries and qualities.”  She added: “I am still working in the industry and have a few projects in the pipeline – so watch this space!”
