Four sat navs stolen per day

2:00am Mon 24th Mar 08:: written by Kelly Rawlings

A shocking average of four sat navs have been stolen per day in Slough during the past two weeks, crime figures show.

As a stark warning to drivers to remove valuables from their cars, police have released figures showing that between March 1 and 18, a total of 68 sat navs were snatched from cars across the town.

Supt Pete Davies, the local police area commander for Slough, said: "This spate is clearly alarming and I strongly advise motorists to take sat navs and all other valuables with them whenever they park their vehicles.

“Many drivers are unaware that leaving the support cradle and suction pads behind still encourages thieves to break into the car, because they assume the device is hidden in the glove box. Thieves will even spot the tell-tale cradle sucker ring on the window or dashboard, so we encourage people to wipe away the mark."

Drivers are also being warned against buying sat nav\'s on the street for cheap because they could turn out to be stolen property.

Supt Davies added: “By buying a sat nav on the cheap just to save a few pounds, you may be committing an offence of handling stolen goods.
