More CCTV cameras for Maidenhead
12:00am Fri 23rd Nov 07:: written by Luke Cross
The Royal Borough's cabinet decided
to invest about £450,000 on new cameras and changes to its current
system.
The council says that since CCTV was
introduced in 1996 it has become a ‘valuable tool in the fight against
crime.’
Seven new cameras look set be
introduced across Windsor and Maidenhead,
including one in Riverside,
Wessex Way, in
Cox Green, Shifford
Crescent in Furze Platt and in Bray car park.
It is
hoped the cameras will help combat antisocial behaviour, theft from motor
vehicles and criminal damage, but these plans are still subject to funding being
available.
The specific sites of the cameras
will depend on further research and consultation.
The council has already set aside
£200,000 for a digital system to replace the existing analogue recording
system.
Another £36,000 will be spent on
infrastructure works to enable IP CCTV.
There will also be a review into the
infrastructure of the network.
