Council tax in Slough is to rise by two per cent.

Councillors agreed at a meeting on Monday to the two per cent increase for 2010/11, despite a below-inflation funding increase from the government.

Slough Borough Council is receiving a 1.5 per cent increase in its government funding for 2010/11, though inflation is currently running at 3.5 per cent.

The proposals will see the local Band D council tax, excluding police and the fire brigade rise to £1,151.39 for 2010/11 from £1,128.21 in 2009/10, an increase of about 47p per week.

Including the police and fire brigade, a typical Band D home will pay £1,361.35, an increase of approximately 56p compared to the last year.

The majority of households in Slough pay Band C council tax which will increase by just under 40p a week to £1,023.45.
