Paving upgrade delayed by weather

11:51am Wed 13th Jan 10:: written by Francis Batt

The freezing weather has delayed ambitious plans to upgrade worn and damaged paving stones in Windsor's prized conservation area.

The £30,000 to £50,000 two-month project was due to begin this week on stones from the top end of Peascod Street as far as Oxford Road East.

But as the work involves using cement and mortar which are weather sensitive, contractors can start only when the temperature is several degrees higher than it is at present.

But it is still on schedule to be completed before Easter and will be carried out in different sections to minimise disruption to shoppers and visitors to the town.

The agreed scheme has two phases. Contractor Balfour Beatty will start phase one as soon as the weather improves, carrying out the minor repairs the length of the street.

Phase two will involve replacing two loading bays and repairing two others.

Completion is due by the end of March.
