What are your hopes for the coming year? Reporter John Balson asked shoppers in Maidenhead what they would like to happen in 2010 and here is what they had to say:

Penny Dollimore, 62, Eton Wick.
"I think the main thing for me is to help my son find a job - there seem to be none around for young people at the moment."

Mark Elder, 28, Greenfields, Maidenhead, IT professional.
"I want to lose some weight, I have developed a bit of a belly eating too many McDonald's and kebabs. I think the council should get some better Christmas lights too."

Jenny Bartholomew, 48, Laggan Road, Maidenhead.
"I hope there will be some better shops in the town, because it has been tough Christmas shopping this year."

James Tetley, 23, St Lukes Road, Maidenhead.
"I've tried to stop smoking millions of times before but I didn't have a young son then, so hopefully I'll be able quit this time round."

Graham Knight, town centre PCSO.
"More public confidence and a reduction in car crime, pick-pocketing and robberies. Plus, I want to get fitter and eat less chocolate, but that's not going to happen is it?"

Luke McMath, 37, Moor End, Holyport.
"I would like to see more gritters. I was stuck in traffic for hours after the snowfall on Monday on my way back from Henley."

Katie Nessling, King Street, Maidenhead, hairdresser.
"I would like to see more shops in the town and better Christmas lights because it has not been particularly festive this year."

Jo Lackovic, 52, Birdwood Road, Salvation Army.
"I want world peace of course and for that loving feeling to extend beyond Christmas."

Sophie Belton, 17, Priors Way, Maidenhead, hairdresser.
"It has been a hard year and everyone has been really down with the recession and the weather, so hopefully it will all get better next year and people will cheer up."
