Police sign up to Facebook to reach community

10:42am Thu 3rd Dec 09:: written by John Balson

A facebook page has been launched by Thames Valley Police in attempt to reach the massive online social networking community.

The page will act as a gateway for Facebook users in the area to engage with their police force and support campaigns and priorities.

It will feature witness appeals, video clips, neighbourhood crime stats, regular news updates and information on how to report a crime.

Roy Probert, acting head of corporate information, said: "Facebook offers us a new way of interacting with them, especially around issues that are important to them, such as knife crime, alcohol-related disorder or being safe on the internet."
