Peak-trains give up more carriages for revamp

3:10pm Wed 2nd Dec 09:: written by John Balson

Rush-hour passengers face even more cramped conditions after First Great Western said it would be losing more carriages from peak services.

Bosses at operator First Great Western have decided to send some carriages, which are used on early morning and evening trains to and from London, away for refurbishment.

This will mean less space for passengers on some peak services.

It comes after last week's revelation that commuters have already been suffering for more than a month because carriages were sent to less busy lines struggling with leaf litter.

City worker, Andrew Rooke, of Wheatfield Close, said: "I feel that I pay a lot of money for letting the train take the strain and yet it appears to be my body taking the strain every morning."

Yesterday a spokesman for FGW, said carriages loaned to deal with the leaf litter issue should be returned by Friday, December 11. However, they said more trains would be affected by the 'refresh' project from December 14.

Trains affected are: 7.02, 7.17, 7.18, 8.33 Maidenhead to Paddington, and the 17.36 and 17.42 from Paddington via Maidenhead.
