Datchet to welcome Christmas on village green

9:58am Sat 21st Nov 09:: written by Francis Batt

Villagers in Datchet plan to welcome Christmas on their village green.

The British Legion has organised the event on Saturday, December 5 from 6pm to 8pm. The Royal Borough's mayor councillor Jesse Grey - who represents Datchet on the council - will turn on the lights on the village's Christmas tree with the help of the deputy mayor Catherine Bursnall.

A massed choir from many of the Datchet Churches and schools will assemble to sing popular Christmas carols to the accompaniment of a brass band.
Many local businesses are running stalls also on the night selling mulled wine, soup, tea, coffee and burgers.

A raffle is being organised by the Stag Public House and all proceeds from the night will be going to the British Legion and SAFFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association)

Everyone who feels like a good sing is welcome to come along and show their support for the Armed Foreces.

This year's village fete raised £6,500 and cheques were due to be presented to a variety of charities yesterday (Thursday) at the Bridge. MacMillan Nurses, St Marys' Church Roof Fund, Second Datchet Scouts, Moores Court and Berkshire and South Bucks Womens Aid are among the good causes that benefitted.
