Loserville the musical - South Hill Park

Bounding onto the stage with the same energy and electricity of the accompanying rock band, the 30 young actors dressed in loud colours captivated the packed-out audience to even louder chords, writes Tara Russell.

The opening of world premiere Loserville was full of 1970s fuelled fun with unique twists including running on stage with name signs introducing the cast members who would be set to wow the crowd.

Filled with laser sharp witty dialogue, packed with cultural references for all ages, a hint of innuendo, and all to a backdrop of catchy feel-good rock music, the show has celebrity rock star James Bourne of Busted all over it.

You would think the show would only attract a select teenage group but it had something for everyone- from bursts of young children's laughter to an elderly couple who, once adjusted to the amplified chords, even had a bit of a bop.

The plot is superb. Set in the time when e-mail is yet to be invented, it revolves around geeky Michael Dork who is socially marginalised by the entire school and constantly picked on by coolest boy of school Eddie until he meets the new girl.

A huge pat on the back should be given to everybody involved but special commendations should go to the new girl of the school Hollie who helps Michael get his ticket out of Loserville. Her voice is belting.

This is not a traditional musical and I have a feeling it will go beyond Bracknell.
