Scott pleased with third place

Keith Scott would have bitten your hand off at the start of the season if you had offered him third place by mid-November.

And that’s exactly where Windsor & Eton FC find themselves at present following a 12 game unbeaten streak which saw them overturn Bishops Cleeve 3-0 on Tuesday after a 2-1 victory against Thatcham Town on Saturday.

The Royalists put themselves in a great position when they brought forward a couple of league games at the end of September, while other teams played cup games or had days off.

“Of course I’d have bitten your hand off,” said the Royalists boss. “It’s great to have games in hand but you have to win them. We took four points from six and that put us up the top, but the others have caught up now and Truro are a point ahead of us.”

He added: “AFC Totton are in a great position because they have games in hand, but they are in a situation where they’ll have to play Saturday and Tuesday week in, week out.”

Scott alluded to the pre-season ambitions of the club which had fans talking of winning the league and gaining automatic promotion.

He said: “It’s a tough league and there’s no easy games.

“We finished eighth last year and people were saying we were going to do this and that, but they forget Didcot Town, Uxbridge, Paulton Rovers and Bridgwater Town finished above us.

“My aim is to finish in the top five. If we do that then it’s a success because we’ll either have won the league or be in the play-offs.”
