Army wives' New York walk for injured

A group of determined army wives from Windsor are preparing for a sponsored 13 mile walk round New York between November 8 - 10 to raise money to help injured servicemen.
It is the latest of a series of events organised by the ladies, including Suzie Shearer whose husband Lance Corporal Karl Shearer was killed in Iraq.
Many of them live in Windsor at the Broom Farm estate and they are friends of Lance Corporal Martyn Compton from D Squadron who suffered 70 per cent burns when his Spartan tank was hit in an ambush in Helmand in 2006.
Household Cavalry welfare officer Noreen Hamnett, one of the ladies, said: "There are 19 of us now. Martyn is due to do the walk with us. He will be having breakfast with the mayor of New York while he is there and taking part in the Veterans' Day Parade."
The ladies have already raised £20,000 - their original target - and hope for much more. Anyone who would like to contribute can do so on justgiving.com/martyncompton
