The M4 was closed twice around Slough after two separate car pile-ups this morning (Tuesday).
At about 8am up to six cars collided in the fast lane of the motorway between junctions five and six.
The westbound traffic was held back by Thames Valley Police as the cars were towed to the hard shoulder before the lanes were re-opened at 8.46am.
A spokesman for the Highways Agency said that another 'multi-car collision' involving two vans and two cars happened at about 9.40am between junctions 4b and 5.
Highways Agency traffic officers removed debris from the road as the lanes were closed to remove the crashed vehicles before re-opening at about 10.30am.
