OLYMPICS 2012: Transport plans for Dorney Lake

Olympics organisers are trawling through the logistical headache of transporting more than 25,000 spectators to and from Dorney Lake everyday when the 2012 games come to town.
A car-free vision has been set out for the venue which will see the tens of thousands of fans transported by train, park-and-ride and even bicycles for the Olympic rowing, canoeing and kayaking events.
But the plans are still in a 'very very early stage' according to Bucks County Council, who met with Dorney Parish Council last night (September 9) to discuss transport concerns.
Kimberley Hardwick, transport project development officer for Buckinghamshire County Counci, told councillors that transport options for the landmark event had not yet been finalised.
She added that the council, working with the Olympic Delivery Authority, needed 'to find the right balance between spectators, local residents and businesses'.
About 26,000 spectators are expected to the Olympic events in Dorney, which has a population of around 700.
The sporting action will run at the lake from July 28 to August 11 before the Paralympics comes to the venue from September 1-3. Events are expected to run from 8.30am to noon daily.
