Will you be stepping out for the hospice?

4:37pm Mon 4th Aug 08:: written by Francis Batt

Women of all ages, sizes and athletic abilities are invited to enjoy a 13 mile walk together, while watching the sun rise over Windsor Castle.

The Sunrise Walk is designed to raise money for Thames Hospicecare, which runs the hospice for people with life threatening illnesses in Hatch Lane Windsor and its sister day care centre at Heatherwood Hospital, Ascot. The service costs £5million a year to run and most of that has to be raised by voluntary contributions.

The 'women only' walk will take place on Sunday, October 5 beginning at the unearthly hour of 5am. Those taking part will have the choice of walking a 13 mile half marathon distance, or a 6.5mile quarter marathon through some of the most  beautiful areas of the Great Park.

Already Windsor actress Sue Holderness, famous as Marlene in Only Fools and Horses and Green Green Grass, has given her support to the event.

She said: "Walking such a distance to witness the dawn breaking over Windsor Great park sounds like  fantastic way to raise money for the hospice.

"The non-competitive environment the organisers are creating where all the women walk together, sounds wonderful and a fantastic challenge."

Participants must be 13 or more and accompanied by an adult if 17 or under. Men are also needed to help with marshalling the event. To enter contact the Sunrise hotline on 01753 848927 or visit www.thc-sunrisewalk.org.uk
