Petition to bring back bus service

4:38pm Wed 23rd Jul 08:: written by Antony Quarrell

Pleas to reinstate a defunct bus service are due to considered by the council tomorrow amid claims that some residents' independence has been restricted.

A petition - signed by 571 people - is set to be discussed at a council meeting tomorrow night.
The petition demands that the number 43 bus service be reinstated along Burfield Road and St Luke's Road, Old Windsor.

The service was axed in March and replaced by the number 71 which did not take in Burfield Road and St Luke's Road on the route, which petitioners claim this has deprived those who live to the west of Straight Road.

The council acknowledge that some residents have been disadvantaged by the loss of the service but point out that those to the east of Straight Road, now have a half hourly bus service.

A number of alternative options will be considered by the council.
