Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple
9:54am Mon 7th Apr 08:: written by Daniel DarlingtonWhen The Odd Couple by Gnarls Barkley landed on my desk to review this week my immediate reaction was to reach for the nearest blunt razor blade and start hacking away at my wrists.
The mere thought of an hour's empty headed listening to a fat man's insincere warbling about five different lovers filled me with dread.
Rotund crooner Cee-Lo Green and his percussionist sidekick Danger Mouse shot to fame in 2006 with Crazy.
It was a one hit wonder of epic proportions and was hastily lapped up by every man and his dog across the globe.
Since then times have been hard for the American duo whose grainy vocals make finger nails scrape down a blackboard inside your brain.
With the album on I sat back and waited for the garbage truck to unload its foul smelling waste.
However, to my astonishment, I found my foot start to tap, slowly at first, but then more and more vigorously as the album progressed.
Going On leaps out of the blocks with it's sharp jazzy beats while Run is a 70's style anthem that BB King would have be proud to call his own.
In Who's Gonna Save My Soul Cee-Lo wails...How will my story be told? Surprisingly well is the answer.
