Drivers foiled police speed checks

Cheeky drivers who hampered a speed check operation by alerting other drivers of the trap have been criticised by the police.
Road safety officers from Berkshire East carried out two speed enforcements checks this week in 30mph zones in Lower Cookham Road and Sheephouse Road, Maidenhead after reports of concern about speeding traffic through residential areas.
However, drivers in Lower Cookham Road who spotted the speed checks, were flashing oncoming cars to warn them about the police presence so officers failed to catch anybody and no fixed penalties for a summons were issued.
PC Bob Wade, who led the operation, said: “The lives of residents will continue to be blighted by this nuisance. Those drivers warning others, who probably view themselves as the innocent motorist, should be ashamed of themselves and view themselves as part of the problem not the solution."
In Sheephouse Road where 11 cars were stopped for exceeding the speed limit. All were issued fixed penalties except one driver who was recorded doing 50mph and was reported for a summons to be issued.

- I hope that the driver who was caught doing 50 loses his licence. These irresponsible speeders in residential areas can kill!
