Wamdsad success

The event started at 1pm on Saturday March 3, and ran through the night until Sunday afternoon.
Archers took part in 16 Portsmouth rounds, shotting five dozen arrows at a 60 centimetre target from 20 yards. The highest score for a single round was achieved in the sixth round by Chris Gray of Burleigh Bowman with a score of 573.
Tom Frith, a member of Clophill Bowmen of Bedfordshire equaled that score in the last round, but Gray took the trophy with a greater number of golds.
The highest scoring women was Celia Stocker with a score of 536, and the highest scoring women compound archer was Pauline Pringle of Woking Archers with a score of 540.
Several archers shot multiple rounds, leading scorer of this band of slatwarts was Sam Baldwin of Windsor Forest Bowmen who shot all 16 rounds with a total score of 8,625. He shot the event alternatimng between a compound and recurve bow and won the award for the highest scoring compound.
Wamdsad's Cheryl Kelly shot the most rounds in the women's event, scoring 2,128 over five rounds and Harriet Ryan won the trophy for the highest scoring junior women with a score of 562.
Ian Avery was the highest scoring boy with a score of 489 and eight-year-old Ellie Haynes completed her first full competition round with a personal best of 126 and raised £47 in sponsorship.
Ray Fields, Wamdsad's Director of Sport deputised as range captain for the afternoon sessions. Pat Montague and her daughter Debbie provided a hearty breakfast. Nick Faulkner worked tirelessly to organise the event which raised more than £1,500 for the club.
