Big dig to stop floods
12:00am Fri 10th Mar 06
Hani Jarcheh, who owns High Street hairdressers Abstract Haircutters, said his shop has frequently flooded and customers have been forced to escape through the shop"s back door before. Royal Borough Cllr David Ricardo (Lib Dem, Bisham and Cookham) has helped push the works through. He said the problems were exacerbated a few years ago by other work carried out as part of the flood relief scheme on Cookham Moor. The new work, paid for by the borough, involves a new large pipe with a valve to aid the flow of water running from the road down onto the moor. Digging is also taking place at the edge of the moor in front of The Crown pub to ensure there is a sufficient fall for the flow of water.
