Cyndi Lauper - Bring Ya to the Brink

Cyndi Lauper may be back from the brink of obscurity with a kick-ass dance album.
But you have to wonder why she didn't return with more of that fresh 80's pop for which she is known and loved.
Bring Ya to the Brink is a decent album, packed with base inspired beats. However, it fails to fire the imagination and lacks the one thing Lauper used to exude in spadeloads fun.
Tracks Into the Nightlife, Echo and Rocking Chair will no doubt be dance floor fillers in the sun-decked twilight clubs of Ibiza this summer. I was left hankering for more of the funk and punk she is famous for.
Where is the snide girly humour, and where is some girls just wanna have fun? Naughties Cyndi would get beaten black and blue by 80's Cyndi.
She has become trance-obsessed and has forgotten to write a lyric of any worth.
Dance-lovers will love it, with their glow sticks and white gloves, but I was left underwhelmed by this passionless pile of bland beats.
