Speed Racer (tbc) – Bizarre-looking and violently colourful latest venture from Matrix creators the Wachowski brothers. A young racer (Emile Hirsh, pictured) vows to win a dangerous race that killed his older brother. Tron comparisons will be inevitable.

What Happens in Vegas (12A) – Frothy rom-com with Cameron Diaz and the guy who’s no doubt grown tired of being called Mr Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher. The pair wake in Las Vegas to discover they got married after a night of debauchery, with one having won a huge jackpot using the other’s quarter.

Doomsday (18) – Brit horror director Neil Marshall (The Descent) looks like he’s going for Mad Max and Escape From New York with this post-apocalyptic fantasy. After a 30-year quarantine, a virus which infected Britain resurfaces. A crack squad must enter the old infected area to find a cure.

Honeydripper (PG) – Acclaimed veteran US indie director John Sayles returns with this tale of Fifties’ rural Alabama, set in a struggling music bar which decides to go ‘electric’ in a lastditch attempt to save itself. Starring Danny Glover.
