Dubbed as the ‘UK’s number one Small Faces tribute band’, the Small Fakers formed in 2006 at the Small Faces convention, where Matt got up and played a few numbers with Dan's band, Dan’s People. Dan knew of ‘Ronnie-a-like’ Neil Runalis, and Matt had previously been in an originals band with Jon Gray.
After forming, they rehearsed hard and in February 2007 they played their first gig at their launch party in London’s Venue 2. "We got some great reviews and feedback which left us with a positive afterglow and a good stepping stone to the future of the Small Fakers" said Matt.
"We are all obviously into the Small Faces as well as many other bands from that era: The Kinks, The Who, The Beatles, The Move, The Action, The Stones etc."
They say their highlights so far include playing at the Isle of Wight Festival, the 2007 Small Faces convention and meeting Small Faces drummer Kenney Jones.
Matt said his favourite gig was the Small Faces convention at the Carling Islington Academy: "A great day full of bands paying homage to the Small Faces. This gig really put us on the map."
Upcoming gigs:
They will be playing at The Phatz Bar, Maidenhead, on June 7.
The band will be playing at this year's convention on September 21, and have been asked to play the Isle of Wight Festival again.
Watch: See the Small Fakers' gig at The Half Moon in Putney, 2008.
