Healthy oriental-western thinking

The menu is almost entirely Izakaya-style Japanese, made with fresh ingredients on the premises. It is licensed, with a range of Japanese beers, sake, and wines.
Basically, Zenzeni is a non-greasy noodle bar, but one with a difference because alongside a very comprehensive menu of noodles in many mouthwatering guises, plus freshly prepared salads and side dishes, is a sushi menu which completes Zenzeni’s oriental-western thinking.
The goal is to provide delicious food quickly. That’s what Zenzeni calls easy eating at the same time believing its meals should be healthy and re-energising.
The décor is minimalist and while the seating arrangement may be in high school mode, the food is in a different class altogether. The open style kitchens boast swathes of shiny stainless steel and look reassuringly clean.
The excellent main menu offers side dishes such as tori gyoza, five chicken and mix vegetable dumplings served with a chilli and garlic soya dip.
The side dishes also double up as starters. Direct from the wok come traditional stir-fry meals including zeni seafood udon – soba noodles with prawns, squid, mussels, spring onions, baby pack choi, red peppers, garlic and a wok sauce.
Ramen noodle soup-based dishes include chilli tori ramen – char-grilled chicken breast served in a hot chicken chilli soup on ramen noodles with bean sprouts, red onions, fresh chillies, coriander, chilli sauce and a slice of lime.
The karaage selection focuses on traditional deep-fried food. Teppan yaki noodles are Japanese-style griddle or pan-fried noodles, while cha hans feature wok-fried egg rice with a choice of spicy beef, chicken or vegetables served with a miso soup.
The lunchtime meal deal costs just £4 and customers choose a main dish and get a miso soup and green tea to complete the meal.
The sushi menu includes salmon nigiri, tuna sashimi, curly salmon naromaki, salmon uromaki and veg maki.
The prices are hard to beat and there really is something for everyone.
