INDIAN OCEAN ROWERS: Audio Blog from the open seas

10:36am Mon 8th Jun 09:: written by Sonia Kapur

Jamie Facer-Childs and James Thysse are still recovering after their boat capsized in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

The pair, who are rowing from Geraldton, Western Australia, to Mauritius, have now rowed 1,323 nautical miles across the ocean. They are fighting against strong winds and still have 1,822 nautical miles to go.

We caught up with Maidenhead man Jamie via satellite phone, to talk about the terrifying moment when the boat capsized, what he misses back home, and about life on the ocean wave.

  • This is a terrific undertaking by two brave young men. James is my wife's nephew,a quiet and reserved character, so I was astounded at his undertaking such a great adventure. Not only have they capsized but they have had a close encounter with a tanker. They are running short of food after adverse winds, currents and generally bad weather. If they simply complete the course they will have made a fantastic achievement, being the youngest ever to row across the Indian Ocean. Adrian Fox
