One of Stanley Spencer's paintings from the early 1920s is part of the large collection of art owned by David Bowie that will be going up for auction.

The Cookham artist's oil painting Carrying Mattresses is part of the extensive art collection owned by the late musician.

Sotheby's is set to display the painting, along with the other works, at an exhibition in November at its New Bond Street site.

Details of the auction, which is expected to fetch up to £10 million, are due to be released in the autumn.

The Stanley Spencer Gallery in Cookham would not comment as to whether it is looking to buy the painting.
