Windsor RFC came from behind in the second half to clinch a narrow 29-28 win over Chobham RFC in their final warm-up game before the new season.

The visitors got the first points on the board with an early penalty but Rhys Davies took a pass from Danny Pyatt to cross under the posts for Windsor.

Pyatt then attempted to reach touch with a long clearance, but it was gathered in by Chobham’s pacy winger who went over in the corner.

Baggott scored his first try for Windsor after collecting a pass from Davies to scoot under the posts, but Chobham’s forwards drove over for their second try, which was converted to restore their lead.

Chobham’s winger then intercepted a loose pass and sprinted 70m to notch his second try and the visitors led 21-14 at the break.

The visitors’ dangerous winger capped off a fantastic display with his hat-trick early in the second half, brushing off six tackles to score under the posts.

Windsor were struggling, and the game looked up for them, but they got back into the contest when the referee awarded them a penalty try after Chobham pulled down a driving maul.

George’s kick was picked up by Hilton who sped over in    the corner to bring Windsor close and Davies converted a late penalty to hand the hosts victory by a point.

Phoenix RFC showed plenty of new season promise with an opening day 34-26 win over Uxbridge.

Outside centre Chris Varey set the tone for an entertaining match, dashing over for three tries in the first quarter to make it 17-0 to the hosts, however, Uxbridge began to string phases of play together and clawed back two converted tries to get within three points of Phoenix.

This even contest swung both ways in the second half, but the  defences remained on top.

Strong covering tackles from Tony Porter, Edd Dibb and Paul Hilling typified the hosts’ desire to get off to a winning start and late tries from Porter, Bradley Coomber and newcomer Alex Castle-Mason carried them to a 34-26 win.
