Khan: It was smash and grab but I don't care
Like the 44-20 defeat at Bletchley in October, Maidenhead RFC head coach Ricky Khan knows his side did not front up for last Saturday’s clash at Witney and almost paid the price.
It took a try in the final minutes to secure Maids their ninth successive win and their top spot in South West 1 East.
“We almost blew it,” said Khan. “We did not play well, but still came away with the win.
“It was a bit of a smash and grab, but I don’t care.
“It’s difficult to maintain form in every match, but what’s important is that we keep winning.”
Khan added: “We didn’t convert possession into points and almost for the first time this season we made some uncharacteristic handling errors.”
The next team that Maids face is bottom-placed Olney, who visit Braywick on Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
The north Bucks side have won just three of their 18 starts this season, but they did beat Swanage & Wareham 20-13 at the weekend.
Either way, Khan is taking nothing for granted, saying: “Olney are bottom of league, but in the past it has taken us a long time to break them down.
“The talk in training has been about maintaining our standards and staying on our game.
“We have been in Olney’s position when we were in the league above and we know what it’s like to be hurting.”
