Energetic young rowers battled it out at a future Olympic venue but there was not a splash of water in sight.

The second South Bucks Indoor Rowing Schools Competition was held at Dorney Lake's Eton College Rowing Centre on Friday.

Burnham Grammar and Burnham Upper were among six schools taking part at the all-day event, which was first held in February last year.

Eight boys and eight girls aged 11-15 years old represented each school in two categories - the Redgraves for experienced rowers and the Pinsents for beginners.

Olympics themed individual and relay races were held including a 2,800km London to Olympia race and a 2,012m competition.

Burnham Grammar School pupils were runners up overall as well as finishing second in the boys' 500m, while Burnham Upper School students came fifth overall but were winners of the years seven and eight 2,012m races and three relays.

South Bucks District Council (SBDC) chairman Alan Walters handed out medals to all pupils with fellow councillor Anita Cranmer, while Ian Barham, Bucks manager for the 2012 Games, spoke about the venue's role at this summer's Games.

Joe Sammon, sports development officer at SBDC, said: "The pupils were very excited to be competing at the same venue as this year's Olympics rowing."

Other schools competing were overall winner Chalfont Community College, The Beaconsfield School, Beaconsfield High School and Alfriston School.
