The official Olympic mascot was welcomed to Wexham today. Khalsa Primary School, in Wexham Road, was named school of the month and the visit by Wenlock the mascot was part of the prize for compiling a blog and embracing the Olympic values. London 2012 has been running a competition asking all schools in the country registered with Get Set, London 2012's official educational resource, to blog what they were doing in relation to the Olympics.
Sports fans who missed out on tickets to this year's Olympic Games will have a chance to catch all the action for free in Maidenhead. Some of the biggest events from the games will be played on a big screen as part of a special Olympic Community Live event held in Kidwells Park between July 27 and August 12. Town centre manager Steph James said: "The event is open to everybody.
Grants of up to £250 are available to sports fans who want to mark the Olympic and Paralympics in style. Get Berkshire Active will also be running workshops from May to July for organisers of events in their community - including diamond jubilee celebrations. Plans for a temporary VIP coach park in Colnbrook during the Olympics and Paralympics are set to go ahead. The application for 387 luxury coaches and 25 car parking spaces as well as toilets and offices, in Poyle Place in Horton Road for the duration of the Games, was considered at a planning meeting at The Centre in Farnham Road on Thursday last week.
Runners and walkers are being encouraged to lace for the very first Charvil 5km. The inaugural charity fun run and walk will set off from East Park Farm on Sunday, June 17, from 10.30am and is raising funds for Daisy's Dream, which provides bereavement support for children in Berkshire.
