Maids women crowned champions

Maidenhead Women’s 1st team have been crowned champions of the South Women’s Hockey League Division 2 with one game to spare.
The women edged to a hard-fought 2-1 success at Brighton last weekend while nearest rivals Tedd-ington surprisingly drew 3-3 at home against struggling Henley.
Maids now sit four points clear at the top of the table with Saturday’s game, against Teddington, their final contest of the season.
Delighted skipper Chantal Frost said: “It’s great, we really deserve it. We’ve worked so hard this year and I think we’ve definitely been the best team.
“To be honest it doesn’t really feel right yet, it won’t until after Saturday’s game against Teddington.
“We were in the cars on the way home last weekend when we heard they had drawn with Henley.
“We were all really surprised and we went back to the club for a little celebration. We’ve got a massive one planned for after Saturday’s game.”
The title win comes after two years of narrow misses for Maidenhead. And Frost added: “Last year we were third, the year before second.
“It feels great. We’ve all worked really hard and done well. Team moral and spirit has been great so we’re all going to enjoy Saturday now.”
