Maidenhead men’s 1sts continued their undefeated run with a solid 2-0 victory over newly promoted Oxford 2nds.

In a scrappy affair, neither side managed to take a command of the game until significant pressure by Maids finally told when Ali Cawthorpe and Mark Hutchinson combined in the circle, after a direct run by Callum Turner, for Cawthorpe to tap in from five yards.

Pressure then mounted on Maids as they begun to sit deep and invite attacks, although a strong defensive effort managed to limit Oxford to a few half chances.

Both sides seemed to lose shape in the second half. Oxford were the brighter side with a dominance on possession, but lacked any cutting edge.

The game was settled 10 minutes from full time when, after sustained pressure by Oxford, the hosts managed a quick break down the right from Greg Joys whose cross found Stephan Roe at the back post who drove the ball home first time.

Maids, who are third in MBB&O Regional 1 with two wins and two draws, are away to Oxford Hawks on Saturday.

*Maidenhead men’s 2nds belied their position propping up the table with a scrappy 1-0 win over Oxford 3rds for their first points of the season. Victory came courtesy of  Mike McEwan’s rising shot which dipped just enough to hit the top of the backboard from a short corner in the second half.

The final minutes proved to be a relatively benign affair as Maidenhead comfortably held on for the points and their first points of the season.

*Maidenhead Monarchs came up short as they looked for their fourth win of the season, drawing 1-1 at Oxford Hawks 7ths.

The Monarchs fell behind from a reverse stick shot that found the bottom corner of the net from the top of the D.

They salvaged a point when Ian Osborn’s snapshot from inside the D rebounded off the keeper to the lurking Chad Fitzgibbon who poked home the equaliser.

*Maidenhead Merlins struggled to adapt to playing on grass as they lost 8-3 at Farnham Common Wrinklies. The visitors scored courtesy of Craig Nair (brace) and Rhys Edwards.

*Maidenhead women’s 1sts lost 4-2 at home to East Grinstead in their national league Conference East clash at Altwood on Saturday.

Maids are sixth in the table with four defeats and three victories in their first seven matches.

*Maidenhead women’s 3rds beat Amersham & Chalfont Ladies 2nds 2-1 at the weekend.

Lauren Torley gave them the perfect start slotting past the keeper for 1-0. Olivia Cracknell hit the second, her third goal in as many games.

Amersham started the second half strongly and converted from a short corner to make it 2-1.
