Murphy hands Rebels injury boost

Danny Murphy is set to return from injury.

Slough Town FC have received a major boost with the news that defender Danny Murphy will not be out for the rest of the season.

Murphy has been sidelined for the past two months with a troublesome ankle injury and it was thought he might have to undergo surgery.

But a scan this week has shown that not to be the case and he could be back in action within the next fortnight.

Boss Steve Bateman said: “It’s a massive boost. The scan found nothing too serious, just inflamed tendons.

“He’s had a cortisone injection this week and that normally takes about 10 days to kick in so I’m hoping he could be back in a couple of weeks.

“The return of Danny, and also getting Simon Sweeney back, has given us a huge boost because they are two key players we’ve been without.

“To have them back for the final third will be very important as they are excellent players.”

Meanwhile Bateman is still looking to bolster his squad ahead of the season’s climax.

He has a seven-day approach in for a striker and has also been talking to another forward as well as a winger.

He said: “I have an approach in for a striker which we can pursue on Friday (today) and I’ve had a conversation with someone who might come in and train with us.

“He actually contacted the club and is someone who hasn’t been getting as much football as he would have liked.

“We’re also looking at someone to provide some natural cover to Steve Sinclair.”

One player who will not be around to help Slough’s title bid is Chris Seeby after he joined St Albans City.

Bateman added: “I’m not surprised someone expressed an interest in Chris because he’s a good player.

“They’ve more than doubled his wages. Chris isn’t motivated by money but having come back from being away he’s still trying to sort himself out.

“I can’t blame him for moving but I’m disappointed.”
