Bateman: We must bounce back

Slough Town FC boss Steve Bateman has called on his title-chasing side to bounce back in the strongest possible way from the back-to-back defeats they suffered this week.

On Saturday the Rebels were stunned as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at lowly Aylesbury and they followed that up with a 3-1 loss at Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Bateman admits the past seven days have been a wake up call but he insists things are far from crisis level at Holloways Park.

He said: “If we needed a reminder that we’re not going to have things all our own way then we’ve certainly had it.

“But we won’t dwell on it too long. Yes we’re disappointed but we’ve got 15 games to go and we need to keep our heads and work hard.

“We’re still top of the table and in a great position. There is no crisis or anything like that.

“It was a strange week in many ways because it’s been a long time since we’ve lost anything back to back but it’s no more than a coincidence.”

He added: “It looks like it was a nightmare week but it wasn’t.

“I said to the boys after the game on Tuesday that we needed to put things into context.

“On Saturday we lost a game we could easily have won in poor conditions and on Tuesday we lost against a very good team after making six or seven changes.”

Slough host Chertsey Town tomorrow (Saturday).

Steve Sinclair (hamstring) and Adam Martin (ankle) are doubts for the game but Nathan Bowden-Haase and Stuart Swift are back from suspension.

* Bateman is not expecting to sign Burnham winger Harry Pritchard following ‘brief’ discussions with the player’s father.
