The Royals look to re-establish themselves as a dominant force in the Sky Bet Championship having been relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2012/13 season.

Brian McDermott was dismissed as manager during the relegation campaign, having secured promotion the season before, and the manager is now back at the club looking to guide them back to England's top tier.

The 2014/15 season started under the guidance of Nigel Atkins, who was replaced by former West Brom boss Steve Clarke in December.

Reading finished in a disappointing 19th place but the season will be fondly remembered for a fantastic FA Cup run, which came to a heartbreaking end in a semi-final at Wembley against Arsenal, as they fell to a 2-1 defeat in extra time.

Clarke looked all set to leave the Royals in November 2015 having held talks with fellow Championship outfit Fulham, but a dramatic U-turn saw him stay at the Madejski, only to be sacked the following month following a poor run of results.

McDermott was reappointed and will look to steady the ship this year. His side should stay far enough away from the relegation zone not to worry fans, with optimistic supporters keeping one eye on the playoff places.
