Pre-season round-up: Thamesmead toppled as Maidenhead United seal convincing pre-season win
Maidenhead United opened their pre-season programme with a convincing 5-0 win at Thamesmead Town.
United took the lead through a trademark DannyGreen free-kick and Jonathan Hippolyte calmly rounded the Thamesmead keeper to make it 2-0 before half-time.
A deluge of substitutions at half-time failed to disrupt the Magpies’ flow who scored twice more through Tashan Adeyinka early in the second half. The Isthmian League Division One North outfit rattled the woodwork before Dave Tarpey marked his United debut with a goal.
This week the Magpies were also beaten 3-0 byWycombe Wanderers in a behind closed doors friendly. United host Slough Town at York Road onSaturday and FCUnited of Manchester the following Saturday.
*SloughTown’s pre-season preparations began with a 4-1 defeat at Windsor on Saturday.
The Royalists, who defeated Harefield United on Tuesday, took the lead through Kane Jones’ lob in the 13th minute, and doubled their advantage through RobLazarczuk’s looping header fromJames Quinn’s free-kick. Sloppy defending from Slough allowedJones to grab his second of the game to make it 3-0 before Johnnie Dyer pulled one back for the visitors before half-time.
The Rebels made a raft of changes at half-time but the new look side struggled to break down their resilient hosts, even afterCarl Dennison was red-carded following a clash withSlough’s Luke Knight.
Eddie Lazarczuk took on Dennison’s gloves but was not unduly troubled as Windsor rammed home their advantage with Jamie DiGuiseppe’s curling free-kick from 20-yards.
Having blown out the cobwebs Jon Underwood and Neil Baker’s newly promoted Rebels visit Marlow tomorrow (Tuesday, kick-off 7.30pm).
*New signing Lee Barney netted for Marlow in their friendly defeat to Conference Premier side Eastleigh.
Barney, who signed for the Blues this week scored in the 25th minute to cancel out Raison’s opener for the visitors in the 19th minute. The Blues matched their more experienced visitors in the opening half but conceded three after the break as Eastleigh cruised to a comfortable friendly win at OakTree Road.
*Burnham kicked-off their warm up matches with a 3-2 home defeat against Wealdstone.
The Reserves won their noon kick-off 4-1 at Bedfont Sports. Burnham visit Egham Town on Saturday.
*MartinKenealy’s first match in charge of Holyport finished in a 1-1 draw at Bedfont Sports.
On a stifling hot afternoon Kenealy and Port’s new management team will be quietly encouraged by the side’s display.
The hosts took the lead midway through the first half with a crisp finish, but Port levelled when Luke Dexter’s curled cross was dispatched by Kris Drake in the 63rd minute.
Port host Godalming Town tomorrow (Tuesday), 7.45pm kick-off.
*Flackwell Heath secured the spoils in a 2-1 win at Wokingham & Emmbrook.
The Heathens visit Bedfont Sports on Saturday.
