Nicholls and Smith sign for rival clubs

Ashley Nicholls and Ashley Smith have signed for new clubs following their departures from Maidenhead United FC.

Former club captain Nicholls has joined Conference South rivals Bishops Stortford while Smith, who was previously undecided on his future at York Road, is expected to sign for Hampton & Richmond Borough in the next couple of days.

Midfielder Nicholls joined the Magpies as a year ago from Boston United and was virtually ever present last season, starting 45 games and coming on as a sub in two more. He scored three times including the only goal of the game at Fisher Athletic which took United to the top of the league last September.

Smith arrived as a virtual unknown from Burnham three years ago but quickly became a fans favourite as he gained a permanent fixture on the teamsheet on the right flank of either midfield or defence. He played a total of 125 games, scoring seven goals, with a further 13 sub appearances.

Definitely staying at York Road is Mark Nisbet who came to the club with his friend Smith. Nisbet has the highest number of Maidenhead appearances of the squad that finished last season, and subject to Dominic Sterling leaving, will be the longest serving player at York Road next season.

Nisbet will be joined at pre-season training by Bobby Behzadi and Nevin Saroya.
