Maidenhead United Ladies march on to the first round proper of the FA Cup
Maidenhead United marched on to the first round proper of the Women's FA Cup after dispatching Shanklin 3-0 at Camberley's Krooner Park on Sunday.
The game was moved from York Road due to Hayes & Yeading United's match, but the Magpies pulled off a surprise win against higher level opponents thanks to goals from Lucy Smith (two) and Tina Brett.
After a goalless first half, that saw both teams strike the woodwork, United edged in front a minute after half-time when Olivia Buzaglo crossed for Lucy Smith to tap home.
United doubled their lead midway through the period when Buzaglo set up Smith for her second with a replica cross, however, Smith missed the chance to score a hat-trick from the penalty spot.
It failed to have a significant bearing on the outcome as the Magpies wrapped up a convincing win, and their place in the next round, with a third from Tina Brett in the final minute.
The Ladies will travel to C & K Basildon in the first round of the competition on December 7.
