Magpies friendly match with Brentford Development Squad abandoned after 54 minutes
A friendly match between Maidenhead United’s A team and Brentford's Development Squad was abandoned last night due to a waterlogged pitch, with the home side leading 2-0.
United’s A squad were leading by two-goals at York Road when the game was called off in the 54th minute.
The match, designed to give some of United’s first team players much needed minutes, began in heavy rain and conditions deteriorated.
When United scored their second goal of the evening, after the ball had stopped dead in a puddle, a halt was called to proceedings.
Rain had fallen throughout the afternoon and the pitch was heavy before kick-off. The players attempted to see the game through to full-time but the farcical conditions eventually thwarted them.
