MAIDENHEAD United's influential playmaker Will Hendry is on the verge of a move to AFC Wimbledon.

Magpies boss Johnson 'Drax' Hippolyte has resigned himself to losing the midfielder who has been a revelation since arriving at York Road earlier this season.

At the time of the Advertiser going to press the deal was all but confirmed and Hendry, who was also wanted by Woking Town, is expected to be a AFC Wimbledon player before Saturday.

Drax said: "It's 99 per cent done, there's just a bit of paperwork to do.

"I spoke to Will after the Chesham game on Tuesday night and that looks like it will be his last match for us.

"He is going to be a huge miss but we knew when we signed him that we wouldn't be able to keep him for very long.

"That's just where we are as a club at the moment. We can't afford to keep players of his quality."

The Magpies boss added: "When we brought him in it took us over budget but Peter Griffin was great about it.

"He saw his quality and allowed us to make the move but it was always going to be short term.

"It's worked out well for both sides. Will did us a favour by playing for us and we did him a favour getting him back to fitness.

"He's enjoyed his football here and it's been great to have a player of his quality to work with the younger lads at the club. We wish him all the best."
