A young boy coming face to face with a cricket ball is the winning image of this month's Sport in Focus prize.

“Howzat!”, taken by amateur photographer Steve Bishop at a wedding, was chosen as photo of the month by Maidenhead Rugby Club ladies captain Louise Walker.

She said: "This to me epitomises the joy, determination, motivation and place for sport in our lives. The look on the little boy's face from such a young age captures absolute sporting spirit that spans ages."

The Sport in Focus project, supported by the Louis Baylis (Maidenhead Advertiser) Charitable Trust and the Kidwells Trust, aims to celebrate sport through photos.

Rod Bird, of the organising team, said: "As winter approaches there’s no letup in the amount of excitement being generated at local sports, but it's often indoors so it presents new challenges to the photographer. It's very rewarding to get to know a local sports team or venue and then to learn how to capture the action and emotion."

More than 200 photos have been sent in featuring 30 different sports.
