WSEH in cross country action
Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow (WSEH) AC sent a large contingent of 54 athletes to contest the National Cross Country Relay Championships in Mansfield on Saturday.
In the under 15 boys event, James Finnegan put the WSEH team in medal contention with his third place on the opening leg in 6mins 47.4secs and Gus Cockle maintained this position on the second leg with his time of 6.57.8.
National schools 800m champion Jivendra Singh set off in pursuit on the third leg, pulling up to the silver medal with 6.49.5 but just failing to close the gap on winners Trafford AC.
The B team of Josh Bowden, George Gather- cole and Giles Robinson was the leading B team in 17th place.
The under 15 girls were also in contention in their race before finishing just out of the medals in fourth. The talented Becca Croft brought the team home in second place after the first leg and Josie Savill improved on that in the second leg and handed over to Rebecca Killip with the team lying first.
But the usually consistent Killip struggled on her leg and was edged into fourth by the end.
The B team of Caitlin Critchley, Chloe Hayes and Tilly Compton finished 70th.
The under 13 girls team of Alex Barbour and Eugenie Cockle also had a strong run as they came home sixth, while the B team were 23rd and the C team 24th.
There was a top 10 finish for the under 17 men’s team of Jack Rowe, Charlie Critchley and Rickie Harvie who came home ninth.
The B team of Callum Todd, Rob Hall and Jack Chapman were 36th while the C team of Luke Barrow, Greg Baynham and Jack Watson were 61st.
The WSEH under 20 men’s team also claimed a top 10 finish.
Jack Killip, Bradley Goater and newcomer Eogen Totten finished in an impressive eighth.
Zak Curran, Ben Kennard and Nathan Ditton were the third best placed B team, coming home 29th overall.
Not to be outdone by their male counterparts, there was also a top 10 finish for the under 20 women’s squad of Maddy Garner, Molly Riglin and Naomi Barbour who finished ninth.
