The England Combined Events Indoor Championships in Sheffield proved a disaster for Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club (WSEH) star Morgan Lake on Saturday.

Competing in the women’s pentathlon, Lake appeared to be on her way to the u20s title after winning the hurdles in 8.74secs, the high jump with a modest 1.57m and the shot with a fine throw of 13.41m.

However, three no-jumps in her favoured long jump took her out of the overall reckoning.

In the u23 age group Celia Quansah won the high jump, but lacklustre displays in the other events saw her fail to even contest the 800m final, while Nadya Wisham finished 17th, with 2,803 points in the u23s event.

*Lake has been selected for the u20/23s Great Britain team for the Senior International Match Combined Events meet in Salamanca, Spain in February.

*WSEH’s Morven Goodrum wasn’t overawed by her selection for the England u17s team at the Great Edinburgh cross country on Saturday.

Competing against athletes from the USA, Europe, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, Morven finished in an excellent 15th place from some 85 finishers.
