A council tax hike to pay for the refurbishment of Dorney Village Hall has been narrowly approved. Dorney Parish Council received 243 returned questionnaires, which had asked 607 villagers whether they supported an annual increase in the parish precept of between £60.96 (Band H) and £20.28 (Band A) to help fund the £350,000 plans. Votes in favour totalled 125, while 118 were against, it was announced at a parish council meeting yesterday.

A world famous department store has become the first organisation outside of the Royal Borough to support the mayor's charity initiative. Mayor Cllr Asghar Majeed started his charity scheme last year to encourage businesses and restaurants to support worthy causes and nearly 70 organisations have signed up.
A pot of nearly £2m is being used to help first-time buyers get a foot on the housing ladder. The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead and Housing Solutions are each putting £960,000 into a shared home ownership initiative starting later this month. Borough chiefs are using cash from developers' contributions, which is being matched by the housing group which will run the scheme.
'Difficult' times lay ahead for Taplow, according to the new chairman of the parish council. George Sandy, of Taplow High Street, was appointed unanimously by councillors at a meeting on Tuesday last week. The 71-year-old, also a district councillor for Taplow, replaces Mary Trevallion as parish chairman, who resigned last month after about six years as chairman
