Sold: Cliveden House sale completed

A deal has been completed for the sale of Cliveden House.

The luxury five-star hotel in Taplow was sold yesterday to billionaire property developer brothers Ian and Richard Livingstone, of London & Regional, for a reported £30m.

A 'multi-million pound investment programme' has been promised in order to 'consolidate its position as one of the best known country house hotels with a unique history'.

The firm which leased the Grade-I listed hotel, von Essen Hotels Limited, went into administration in April last year with £250m debts and Christie & Co was appointed to sell its portfolio of 28 hotels by administrator Ernst & Young.

Cliveden, which is under lease from the National Trust until 2090, is the 20th hotel to be sold.

Chris Day, international managing director for Christie & Co, said: "The sale of Cliveden is the pinnacle of our work to date on behalf of the administrators.

"This renowned hotel has a new owner who will make complete the investment required to meet the growing demands of the international leisure and corporate customers of the business.

"We are delighted to announce this long awaited sale which will be followed by more sales on behalf of the administrators in the weeks ahead."
