MARATHON: Find out how the runners got on

Some ran for a charity, some ran against the clock and others simply for personal pride.

But all those who donned trainers and running gear for the Flora London Marathon on Sunday had a common goal - to reach the finishing line after some 26 long hard miles.

Maidenhead town centre manager Steph James, had earned a championship place and set off before the masses.

The 26-year-old from Maidenhead Athletics Club, completed the course in 3 hours, 12 mins, 46secs and ran to raise money for Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

She said: "The crowds were really fantastic and I was determined not to walk or stop and I didn\'t, I kept running.

"I was amongst people who were pushing to get good times so I had to be careful not to go off too quickly and get dragged along by them.
"I think I got beaten by a Batman though, which was quite frustrating."

Lance Corporal Phil Boniface from the Household Cavalry was cheered across the finish line by his partner Gemma and his family - after running in memory of his sister Jennifer, who died four years ago aged 24 from a rare liver disease.

He made it round in 3hrs, 59 minutes. He said: “Jennifer had Alagille syndrome and fought it all her life. Running in her memory kept me going through it all.

“It was a truly incredible experience; running side by side with other people who were running for something or someone special was really uplifting. I’m really pleased with the result but for me it wasn’t about the time, it was about the cause."
